Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but in the 1st Edition DM Handbook a portable hole is valued at 50,000 gp.

Hmmmm. I guess that is worth much more then the dragon would be. Too bad I looked in the book huh?

Oh, by the way, according to the DM Handbook, if we treat this as a "subdued evil dragon" the selling price will be around 200-1600 gp depending on the various conditions.
Also, and evil dragon will not stay in the capitivity of a "good" master for very long. However, if it is well treated, given amble treasure, and allowed amble freedom the length of it's domanence can be increased somewhat. If it's captivity does not satisfy it dragons have been know to turn on their "masters" and kill them.

You have a young dragon. So far that has worked in your favor.

Steve, Steve, Steve...I think the King can afford 50,000 gold, and I bet he has ten portable holes just laying around.

But seriously, I'm sure everything will work out in the end.

Dude, simply supply and demand.
Sell it to an evil person, higher demand = more straight cash homey.

It has to work out in the end. What will happen is either,

1. The king gives in, giving you guys what you want.

2. The king gives you the stuff you wanted a page back

3. The king gives you nothing, and you are forced to kill the thing.

I don't think that the thing will get big enough to kill you guys, since when it starts to show more signs of evilness you can end it right there. Heck, you guys might be able to take on the adult version of this with a little back up from the older guys. A child(just above baby) dragon shouldn't be to hard to take out if it really comes a time where you have to kill the thing.

I actually wouldn't mind trying to communicate with it. We may only gain a little knowledge, but knowledge is power...

Black dragons do not like Clerics....I would love to know why, maybe we can get a clue from it...

It's a baby, it doesn't know anything yet. So I doubt it knows why its race hates Clerics, but that would be cool.

Simple supply and demand would also tell us that the kings demand curve is actually higher than an evil persons, because the results would be far worse if we sold it to an evil wizard or something. Either way our quantity, Q, is only one, so that's set in stone.

So my thinking is this.

King's demand > Evil person because Evil person+dragon=super scary so...
King's price > evil person's price

Hmmm? Possible right? Anyway I'm pretty sure dragon will never get to point where it can kill people. From my research a dragon is in it's "Hatchling" period for about 15 years. In hatchling stage a black dragon reaches a maximum of 6 ft.

From game talk and so forth, I think we can safely say this dragon is between 6-7 feet long.
(The DM has spoken.)

i believe the deal that i offered is more than fair to the king, and alex u are wrong...i alone could kill this thing one on one when it reaches adulthood...pending 20's...and at most sergio and i could easily kill it, but as sergio said this dragon should be a baby for much longer....anyway...has the king come to turns with my offer or would like to make a counter-offer???

Also, sol is more than welcome to come ask questions with the dragon, since so far he has shown no resistance or hatred to clerics, since he does not yet know that he is evil, or that he hates the good clerics

If this thing is 6-7 feet long already, and still growing for a few more years could mean this is going to be a big dragon.

Hah, I agree with Mike, right now anyway the dragon shouldn't scare us. I think we really need a game to settle a lot of this stuff.
