Jeff Hegle Eagle Court Of Honor
April 10, 1988

Jeff Hegle was the first Scout of the current troop to receive his Eagle Rank. His Court of Honor was held at St. Paul's' Lutheran Church in Melrose. Maybe people of the community attended this important event.
Check out the Eagle Hall of Fame for more information about this event.

Jeff took a moment to pose with the cake which we would all enjoy eating after the ceremony.

Jeff's scoutmaster presented the eagle award as his proud parents and special guests stood around him.

After the ceremony Jeff, his family, and some of his friends returned to his home to open the gifts.

Spring Camporee
April 15-17, 1988

It was not often that the Scenic District held a spring camporee, but this year they did. There was plenty for the Scouts to do as they competed in several competitions that tested many skills. They also had the chance to try their hand at new things. After all, isn't that what a camporee is all about?

The Scouts took a rest break between the stations of competition.

The Scouts tried cutting donuts with a two handed saw at one of the stations.

Nine members of Troop 68 attended the camporee along with two adult leaders.

Camp Watchamagumee
May 13-15, 1988

Once again the troop headed to the special place known as Watchamagumee, otherwise known as Klassen's land. It is one of the troop's favorite places to go for a weekend. This time the outing had the theme of "primitive camping". Each patrol had to make its own shelter to sleep in. No tents were allowed. (Although we did have tents along just in case bad weather threatened.)

Each patrol had to make a shelter from scratch and slept in them during the night.

Pancakes is always a favorite thing to prepare for breakfast during a camping trip.

Nine Scouts braved the elements by attending the primitive camp-out at Camp Watchamagumee.

Court of Honor
May 30, 1988

This summer's court of honor was held at the VFW clubroom. A pot luck dinner was held before the ceremonies began. Several Scouts earned awards, including Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class Ranks.

Philip recieved the Tenderfoot Rank.

Greg received the rank of Second Class.

Josh received the First Class Rank.

Camp Courage Wagon Train
June 16, 1988

When the Camp Courage Wagon Train came through Melrose during their annual fundraising trip the community came together to give them a great afternoon lunch. The Scouts of Troop 68 had a chance to give service to others by working during the dinner.     "...to help others at all times."

The wagon train had to cross over Interstate 94 as it made its way to the American Legion for lunch.

The Scouts of Troop 68, some in cowboy costume, helped out by serving milk and cleaning and setting tables.

A couple Scouts had the opportunity to pose for a picture with some people traveling in the wagon train.

Christmas Party
December 3, 1988

It has become a troop tradition to have a Christmas party. We usually will watch a video or two, play a few games, eat more pizza and junk food then we should, and have a gift exchange. All in all, it is a great time.

The gift exchange is one of the highlights of the Christmas party. Now, who's present is this one?

A present of a poster made one Scout quite happy during the party.
.

The Scouts show off their presents and their new caps after the gift exchange was completed.

December Court Of Honor
December 19, 1988

The fourth and last court of honor of 1988 was once again held at the VFW clubroom. The Scouts did a good job of earning skill awards, merit badges and ranks.

Philip and Brain recieved the rank of Second Class Scout.

Greg and Ross received the First Class rank.

Greg earned the troop's Progressive Patrol Award.

Group Picture

During one of the meetings held at the Senior High School we had a camera availible. So, since most of the troop members were present, we took the opportunity to get a group shot.
