The Central Minnesota Council and Camp
Ripley National Guard Base have worked together for
many years to bring the Boy Scouts to the base for a weekend of fun and
learning. Over 1000 Boy Scouts and leaders attended the event.
Saturday lunch was prepared by troops after hiking to the banks of the Mississippi River.
It was chilly out, but lunch always tastes great when you make it yoourself.
Know tying was one of the many stations of compitition during the day's events.

Supper was eaten in one of the barracks dining halls. Looks good, doesn't it?
The Scouts were able to have a shirt silk screened during Saturday evening's activities.
Rock Climbing Trip
April 29 - May1, 1982
This year the troop went on its first
rock climbing
expedition to Taylor Falls, Minnesota.
This was to become one of the troop's
favorite
activities and would be repeated several times over the next two
decades.

It did not seem very far from the bottom, but it did get a little high up there.

The were some spots on the cliff that seemed tougher then other to navigate.
Court of Honor
May16, 1982
The May Court of Honor was held in the old city hall
(above the fire department). It was not a great place for taking
pictures but we did try. This would be one of the last court of honor
held in this building before it was torn down.
Spring Camporee
May 21-23, 1982
The council held a spring camporee in
May near
Rice, Minnesota.
Scouts competed in several Skill
competitions
including stations testing their pioneering skills, log
sawing
skills, and a variety of other activities.
It is time for the blindfolded first aid carry station.
How long will it take to set up a tent that you have never tried setting up before today?
Back at the campsite, it was time to prepare supper.
The Webelos Scouts were invited to attend the camporee with the troop.
Summer Camp
July 1982
Crow Wing Scout Camp, near Nevis, Minnesota, was once
again where the Boy Scouts of Melrose Troop 68 attended a week of
summer camp.
Nine members of Melrose Troop 68 attended summer camp this year.

Scott was an ecellent shotgun shooter during the week's weekly compitition.
Beanie the deer could be found around camp as it healed from an accident.
Fall Camporee
August 17-19, 1982
The district fall camporee was held at Parker Scout
Reservation near Merrifield, Minnesota. The Boy Scouts participated in
Scout skill and sporting competitions. It was a good time and the
Melrose Scouts did well.
Do you think there might be a couple too many people trying to hit the ball?
Troop 68 did well during the volleyball game, but not well enough to win the tournament.
Time to try a different sport. How about some football?
Eight members of Melrose Troop 68 attended the camporee.
Recognition Banquet
December 18, 1982
A winter ceremony was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church
to recognize a few individuals who did a great job of helping the troop
be successful during the previous years.
The evening began with the presentation of the colors.
George and Barb O'Brien received a plaque from Jeff.
Wif and Alice Finken received a plaque from Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Carstens were congratulated by both Scott and Jeff.
